Message from the Founder Chairman

As the founder Chairman, it gives me great pleasure to convey this message for the Annual Report of the Insight Institute of Management & Technology (IIMT).

Insight Institute of Management & Technology (IIMT) was established with the primary objective of empowering the youth, especially the school dropouts from lower-income families, to develop their skills to enable them to find gainful employment. This is considered a moral responsibility of the community, with the hope of breaking the cycle of poverty and promoting equality, while naturally resulting in the prevention of unwanted social issues such as crime, drug abuse, and mental health problems.

While looking for opportunities, the Board of Directors realized the difficulties in Muslim youth gaining admission to Technical Colleges, which are spread all over the island. This was mainly due to the fact that our students are not conversant with the medium of instruction in those colleges, i.e., Sinhala.

Although started in a small way in 2009, the Institute had trained nearly 3,000 youth in vocational training. Within a short time, the Institute became popular as a pioneer in vocational training, provided with Tamil as the medium of instruction, outside the North and East of the island.

Over the years, it had progressed very well, leading to forwarding an application to the Ministry of Higher Education claiming degree-awarding status. As the founder Chairman, it was my dream, and I am indeed overwhelmed with these developments. Further, the Institute had already started conducting lectures for students following the Bachelor of Information Technology (BIT) degree offered by the University of Colombo School of Computing (UCSC).

To meet the challenges associated with the above application, we have embarked on an accelerated infrastructure development program with the support of many well-wishers. In this regard, it is my duty to thank all those donors for responding to our call with their financial contributions.

The Board of Directors was also mindful to operate the Institute as a “not-for-profit” organization, and hence the course fee is kept as low as possible. This enables more children from deserving families to enroll in programs conducted, while some of them are offered scholarships.

At Insight Institute of Management & Technology, we are committed to fostering a culture of excellence, curiosity, and creativity. Our delivery through a hybrid mode has resulted in awarding NVQ Level 3 & 4 certificates using well-equipped workshops and facilities. Along with that, the industry partnerships ensure that our students are well-prepared for the job markets in and out of Sri Lanka, which will definitely empower them to shape their future.

As we move forward, we remain focused on our commitment to making the Institute a place of excellence. I wish to appreciate the commitment and dedication from our staff, especially when we were faced with difficult times during the Covid pandemic. Together, we will continue to push the boundaries so that a significant impact can be made on society and the world at large.

I am proud to be associated with this journey and look forward to witnessing many milestones in the years to come.

Thank you for being a part of this exciting journey.
